Nidhi. Just Act! Adventurer Since May 16th, 2020
Right after Just Act! Nidhi decided to plant things in her vicinity in order to foster time for self-care.
Nidhi found out about Just Act! through a friend (Thanks, Brittany) At the end of her Just Act! Inner adventure, Nidhi identified that she struggled with putting herself first sometimes. In order to give herself priority in her own life, Nidhi thought it would be a good call to plant things near to her in her small, urban apartment.
Nidhi started with a tomato plant.
At our first check-in, Nidhi reported that things were moving slowly, but there was progress. She already had a cherry tomato plant, and was looking into getting a mushroom grow kit because mushrooms didn’t require light.
Nidhi moved on to coffee ground-grown oyster mushrooms.
At our next check-in, Nidhi reported that she skipped the mushroom kit, because her roommate found out they grow well in coffee grounds. Nidhi dries out her grounds each day, and the oyster mushrooms are growing!
While not the gardening she envisioned right after Just Act!, it serves the same purpose. Here’s how she describes the experience.
“I drink coffee first thing in the morning, then immediately afterwards I spend some time spreading out the grounds so they dry. Then in the evening once they have fully dried, I add them to the mushrooms. So it has extended my morning coffee ritual in a cool way and bookends my days too. I spend the time when I first wake up and right before I go to sleep taking care of myself and the mushrooms. It’s also cool to use the coffee fully instead of discarding the grounds.”
Her tomatoes were still in the works and growing really slowly. She hypothesized that the slow growth was lack of sunlight, and thought grow lights were going to be a needed addition.
Nidhi moved on to moving near a lake where she dreams of setting up a hydroponic system.
The next time we checked in Nidhi had really big news! She was moving out of her tiny city apartment, and into an apartment near a lake. Just Act! And other forces in her life helped Nidhi realize how much she wanted to live near a lake, and how close she was to achieving that dream. Spending just a little more time taking care of herself gave her the space and energy to get there.
Her tomatoes still weren’t really working, but she was okay with that because she believed the new apartment would make the planting system she originally imagined possible. With more space than her tiny city apartment, she had plans to create her own hydroponic setup.
At the end of this check-in, she had this to share:
“I am very grateful to you for sharing your gift. You helped me realize that people can help the earth while reaching their personal goals and how in fact these two things aren’t separate at all.”
Thank You Nidhi!
My heart is FULL hearing about your adventure. I am so happy that the one small adjustment to take care of yourself by tending to mushrooms created the space you needed to take one big step closer to your dreams. It was my joy to share my gift, and I can’t wait to see how lakeside life treats you!!
